When you research just how many Assembly factories, Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 suppliers for Honda and Toyota are located in the U.S. and the thousands of AMERICAN workers that are employed at these facilities, the CARS program benefits the American economy no matter if you are buying Ford, GM, or the Japanese makes.
I agree. WTF? This is crazy! Why would anyone buy a Ford?!

Hahahaha...that is very funny!
Actually, ALL of the top cars bought in the cash for clunkers program are American since Hondas and Toyotas are made in the U.S. in non-unionized factories down south. Yet the Camaro is made in Canada. So here is my tough question of the day: Which car is American? A Canadian made Chevy Camaro or an American made Mercedes M Class? I've bene thinking this question over for 2 weeks and don't know the answer!
You know what is crazy.. I wanted to turn in my Savana Van 3500 1998 that has 154,000 miles on it and get a jeep or a hybrid for one of my daughters. We got down to the end of the process and because my van was so big (its considered category 3), I would have had to buy a big truck or huge suv in order to get the government sponsored rebate. Wasn't interested in that! So much for saving the environment!
Here's the glass half full part: All 10 of the top clunkers were American cars!

So, perhaps those people buying Fords are just preparing themselves for the next program!
Ha.
And, turns out some NYC dealers are refusing to participate, the funds are too slow coming from the government.

But, the part of this I love is, its not the UAW benefitting if you're buying non-union and non-Chrysler.
Where's NYCROBOT???? He'd love to hear that
