Discussion about
Broker hater #1 here.
narrow minded fool
So not true. I learned about legal status of houses (sro, cert of non harrasment, etc) coop requirements, renovations, good blocks and bad blocks, current mortgage practices, school districts, crime stats, tax changes, rentals, historical price trends, new developments, the list is infinite. What is your interest in putting down SE? Are you a broker that has been outed here?
blame the lack of transactions or that most of the people here think that waiting is the best thing to do?
so...elaine, you just created your new identity to complain that this forum doesn't work for you? why not just move on?
oh, and like Mimi I've learned a great deal on this site. My dislike of brokers is from personal experience, not from hearsay on SE though it is nice to commiserate with other wronged parties. We know the truth, whether the broker spins it (an industry specialty) and calls us fools or not. I'm an active buyer without a buyer's broker (by choice) btw. I've met more listing brokers than I'd have ever imagined & I know of what I speak.
Like brokers who "exaggerate" about square footage, or call an apartment with a sunken living room a "duplex"?
hey, at least we don't talk about the weather. econ has a lot to do with RE anyway.
Don't forget the loony-tunes that will spam to death a thread with complaints about minute spelling mistakes, all the while not entirely grasping proper grammar themselves.
I've ignored them, but it is also annoying having to see that I have ignore posts displayed - tempting me to un-ignore them for just a bit to see what other asinine comment they posted.
there's also 3 other kinds. very sexy, very smart and very aloof. Ar, 81 and me! other than just a few, it is mostly the johnny come lately that are the idiots. Most that have been here a year or more have something relevant to say. Where does that leave you Elaine?
Don't forget the left wing nuts and the right wing nuts.
never making an investment because you are a scared market timer destined to live in a crap rental sudio the rest of your life does not make anyone an economics blogger.
SE is awesome and as mimi says, full of people who know a great deal about a wide range of topics related to real estate...its a great place to go to get info on comps and even to ask questions....as with any public forum, not all the answers are correct or opinions all in agreement, but that doesnt mean that all the information is bad or that all the opinions are silly...i've found thoughtful people who disagree with my perspective and appreciate the opposing view...keeps me thinking and engaged and prevents stasis
petrfitz: You're an idiot. Everyones situation is different. There are a million reasons why renting in Manhattan can make perfectly good sense. The world is full of places to make RE investments. I own many properties in 4 different states. I CHOOSE not own in Manhattan, I am now actively looking. Some of the smartest people I know are renters, some of the dumbest people I know are Manhattan renters. There exist no correlation between "scared market timer" and economics blogger. However, I enjoy the "scared market timers" to the "defensive, dumbass market owners". I played 18 this morning and am now off to play some tennis, I am done with you, you are dismissed.
I hate all those economics posts -- can't I just make the biggest investment of my average citizen life in peace, without getting all bogged down in facts and figures and reality-checks that might help me to buy at something other than a wildly inflated price that has nothing to do with the asset's value? Killjoys.
Elaine345 is obviously a very bitter broker who can't handle seeing NYC real estate prices drop to somewhat SANE levels. This site may have some negative posts but overall it's a great resource to compare properties, find out what the current owner paid for a property , learn about various neighborhoods, tax issues and other factors to consider when buying. It helps make the market more transparent for the average everyday buyer & anyone working within the real estate industry who considers that a 'bad' thing is most likely scum who has made his or her living off of uniformed buyers.
Streeteasy is also some guy who always posts long political rantings. Thanks Riversider
