I've been enamored with the West Village for a while, but I have never lived there. However, I am planning a move this fall. I have seen 3 co-op rentals at 304 West 10th street (great river views on the 4th and 5th floors) and it seems a nice pre-war bldg from what I can tell. The only negative I can see is no laundry. As far as the area, the other tradeoff is being farther from the subway. However, I love that the area is close to the Highline and not clogged up so much with people like Bleecker St and overly touristy. I am a quiet type not a party person. Any experts out there have any thoughts. Again I'm just going on my initial impressions. I can only afford a studio in this area, but I am a 'place over space' type of person. Also I am finding this area of town as probably expected, is not seeing the steep decline in rents as others, so I'm not sure how long to hold out for. [less]
West Village holds a lot of charm, but not always the most practical..
My second favorite part of teh city after the upper west side(bot each for different reasons)

The Highline? Seriously? That would be a selling point?
Trust me, you'll be using the subway WAY more often than the Highline.
