Discussion about
I think Streeteasy is pretty clearly the first (?) major step in providing real transparency to buyers and allowing them to (more) comfortably navigate the market without the use of a broker. I wonder what's being done out there to help owners rent out their units without having to resort to a broker as well. Now I know many people prefer to just hand the keys to someone and have them do all the work, but I imagine that many people with only one or a handful of properties might prefer a little more personal vetting. I know my parents exclusively use Craigslist or personal references (only in Boston/Cambridge and DC markets), but I wonder if there isn't a better idea out there. Anyone with experience or ideas here?
tricky part, i think, is that while there are many complaints about craig's list, it's free. in theory, there is a clear niche between that and paying a broker but i can't really think of any examples from other industries where that in between has been effectively serviced and provided a reasonable revenue stream.
I've been using craigslist, and I keep running into fake rental listings where they won't tell me the address and ask for a deposit "to reserve the apartment because there is such high demand" before I even see the place. Ha, I'm stupid, but not THAT stupid.
I know StreetEasy has the option to rent by owner (saw that on the rentals homepage). Have people seen good results with these postings?
we can call it erenterharmonynyc.com, and then franchise every city in the country... whoz in?
I'd be cool if we showed a really ugly LL, making out w/ a hot chick.... of chicks.. .then blackout to "erenterharmonynyc.com"
Id' do it just for the ad...
