A serious thank you to all you smarty pants New Yorkers... The NY bits site and the management companies represented there are the real deal. There is nothing like picking up a key and checking out the space on your own. sweet...Your responses to my Rental rant have changed the way I search for rentals, and ultimately the co-op I will buy when the market and my knowledge of the city converge in cataclysmic fashion. (oh the drama) But here's the kick in the pants, on a number of levels... so, along the way...we look at an apartment we would never ever take, why would I do that? well, because I have the voices of the genius crew at the Bar called StreetEasy Talk in the back of my head saying Don't rule anything out! Adjust your expectations! Realize you will not get the perfect everything! Be open! SOOOOO, after all of this, oh Gosh, I can't even believe I am going to say this... let me take a sip of coffee.. ahem... I think we are seriously considering a ... oh gosh...a studio (deep breath) apartment in a full-service doorman building on the... the... the... Upper East Side! What The?? WHere's my loft in TriBeCa? Where's my quaint little tenement in NoLita? The gorgeous brownstone on the UWS? The walk-up in the East Village? The pre-war awesomeness in the West Village? what? I can't handle the grit on the LES? WHO IS THIS PERSON I AM?!?! LMAO It has white walls, and white carpet (gasp), and part of it is even mirrored, ugh...but..it's high in the sky, the view is pure concrete scrapers and shimmers at nite...it is cute as a button, it is west of 3rd Ave near 70th(I listen really well), it is near the 6, it is an easy commute from the Island with 2 bridges and a tunnel to consider...and yes, an agent showed it to us, and yes the Owner is paying the fee, and she has been purely professional. HUH? Just when you think you know something of this city.. Thank Heavens I did not buy, I almost have an official foot in the ground, and I am determined to know this city and market like the crew of you. Thanks for listening. [less]

NoDiggity I enjoy reading your stream of consciousness! I hope to learn from your example in "opening my mind to the possibilities", because the alternative just isn't working well for me. I hope you will enjoy learning about your new neighborhood.
thanks, from one newbie to another...
yes, it actually works to follow George's example.
Do you remember that Seinfeld episode where he can't get any luvin'? so he decides to do the OPPOSITE of everything he would ordinarily do in his attempts to seduce women...hilarious. although I think he didn't get any in the end.
Anyway, take a look at an apartment you would never want (in your price range of course)...
and just take a view from another angle...try on different lenses, wide angle, telephoto...
it always helps you fine tune your compass.
what the hell do I know?
LOL
Look...you made it on to curbed.

renter files a stream of consciousness monologue on StreetEasy about coming to terms with a housing hunt that ends on the Upper East Side: "SOOOOO, after all of this, oh Gosh, I can't even believe I am going to say this... let me take a sip of coffee.. ahem... I think we are seriously considering a ... oh gosh...a studio (deep breath) apartment in a full-service doorman building on the... the... the... Upper East Side! What The??
