I do have to say that I think for Manhattan brokerage houses, Corcoran has always been the sharp end of the stick when it comes to new webiste innovations.

Brokers should do this for all their listings, but most still think nicely arranged bananas on an HVAC unit are all that is needed to sell apartments.

30 years -is it me, or do those photos make that listing much more interesting (the same agent has same feature available in another of her listings as well here - http://www.corcoran.com/property/listing.aspx?Region=NYC&ListingID=1872184 - I think wonderful to be able to see in such detail -

I see a problem, as when high def came to TV and newscasters found out their flaws were now visible. Botex treatments went way up.

Most apartments would be downright scary in high def.

Even on the really crappy netbook that I currently use, those photos were nice.

Here is a difference. In the corcoran listing, the feature is easy to find. In the prudential listing it is difficult to find even when looking for it. You have to read thru the dull broker blah blah before it is offered at the end. Don't brokers take marketing classes. Pictures have trumped text ever since People Magazine hit the stands. What is the point if you have high def pictures if no one sees them.

30yrs, I spewed a little water out my nose - thanks! Back on topic though, I think this is a great, great feature as well. I'm still surprised at how poor some online listings and websites are these days. Most potential buyers start their searches online these days (I think?), so having a quality, detailed listing is invaluable. I can't tell you how many times I've been disappointed by terrible lighting in photos, not to mention a complete lack of photos at all, an indecipherable floor plan, and no information on square footage or building amenities. For my money, I think Stribling is consistently the best with their listings - they are usually a joy to navigate, though I'd like to see this full screen photo thing catch on everywhere.

The betamax thing is one of those urban legends, that it was this vastly superior technology that got screwed by marketing decisions. Its not quite true.

The storytellers always seem to conveniently leave this part out...

Standard Betmax tapes lasted 60 minutes — not long enough to record a movie.

separately, the porn part itself might be another urban legend. wikipedia claims it, but try finding some factual documentation of this...

I think you need to separate statements 1 and 2. If 2 isn't true, it doesn't mean 1 isn't. One person's (interesting and I thing mostly correct) view on the fate of Sony Betamax:

VHS clearly won the consumer (1/2" inch) videotape market. However until very recently programming, and especially commericals were shown on Betamax 3/4" "broadcast quality" tape and players. Had Beta continued as a consumer product it may have benefitted from Sony's professional R&D, but not long enough for a movie....and no porn...(two things I just learned reading this thread)...doomed from the start. What was one supposed to do with a Betamax, record Sesame Street? (I was exceptionally proud of myself in that I could actually program my first--mid 80s--VHS VCR..."Hill Street" and the ballgame at the same time without compromise. Life was great!)

True, but it doesn't really help the case at all.

DIVX vs. DVD - which was a HUGE debate and slowed down the adoption of either technology - wasn't decided by porn. I don't think it had much to do with blu ray debate either.

I actually think the statement is more applicable to online technology. Porn led in ecommerce, porn let in internet security, and porn also led in internet fraud.

But for video, I think ultimate the consortiums determine what to deliver to consumers...

but in the instant case, it was a MAJOR factor (and it was also a major factor in the closing of theaters which played adult films: it pretty much totally wiped them out. But replaced them with..... and on and on. Getting further off topic, one of the best "gotcha" lines i ever heard was back in my music business days. Some fairly good looking but airheaded girl was bragging about being a "movie star" when she had done like 2 walk-on parts with no lines. One of the band members quipped "I saw your last movie" and her eyes lit up until he finished with "but I missed the ending because I ran out of quarters).

30: Best gotcha line i ever heard -- I put myself thru college by cocktail waitressing. We wore very, very short shorts. There was a waitress who had supported 5 kids for years as a waitress -- her husband absconded with another woman. She still had a great view of life, was a good mother, a really hard worker, good earner and still sexy. I heard a guy come up to her and in a very lascivious voice say" Oooh honey, I would love to get in your pants" Without a moments hesitation, she shot back "Honey, one asshole in my pants is enough".
