On Thursday, May 3rd, there will be a key public meeting at PS 41, 116 West 11th Street, at 7:00 PM. This meeting will be our best single chance to speak out against the plan. Downtown needs to be represented in force. A few months ago, a mega real estate developer unveiled a plan to redo the community fields at Pier 40 as a $600 million dollar tourist destination -- "Vegas on the Hudson," as one newspaper called it. The loss of field time at Pier 40, together with the shrinking of the Ballfields coming in November would be a devastating blow to youth sports and recreation in our community. If you can't make the May 3rd meeting at PS 41, please sign our online petition at http://www.savethefields.org . This petition, jointly sponsored by nine major youth sports providers from Chelsea, the Village, Soho, and Downtown, demands that existing fields at Pier 40 and Battery Park City be protected and upgraded to meet the growing needs of our kids. Kids and parents alike may "sign" -- every family member's name should appear on that petition to show how important our fields are to our future! So, again... For the petition and more information on the fight for Pier 40 and community needs at the Ballfields : http://www.savethefields.org The rally for Pier 40: THURSDAY, MAY 3rd at 7:00 PM PS 41 Auditorium 116 West 11th Street (just west of 6th avenue). Please sign the online petition and come out on May 3rd! [less]
We don't need suburban sports in NY.
no. you're right. don't need our kids playing team sports, exercising, etc. we need to have them eating at crap and watching the circus. and whatever they do there, let's make sure related companies make money. by all means...
if pier 40 isnt replaced with sports fields of equal amounts, it will adversly affect famillies who want to live in NYC. Pier 40 is a vital part of the team sports programs in NYC
