Regarding Germans: From my very limited German experience, most of the Germans I met thought renting was the vernünftig (sensible) way to approach housing. Not sure if a) my experience is representative of "most" Germans or b) this represents a fundamental difference in how shelter is viewed by the two cultures (ie I don't believe the "German dream" is to be a home owner (the "American dream" is home-ownership isn't it? ...or is that just NAR propaganda?) .

they are buying it up...just open your eyes
NYC is cheap by comparison to a middle level city there and the urge to own America is stronger than the swiss tick

Agree. I was looking at places in Delhi, Kuala Lumpur and Sichuan, but they are just so damned expensive compared to New York.

bjw, the swiss chocolatiers have already been spoken for by the austrians. sadly there seems to be a supply issue in terms of saviors.

malthus, just as the us gov't needs to "save" housing prices, the swiss need to "save" the austrian banks. total self-interest.
