Discussion about
I am considering to buy in the Financial District, anybody had a direct experience with the public elementary schools down there? Would you buy there mostly based on the school district? Thank you

From what i have read the picture is somewhat muddled right now. Too many new children in the district so they are starting or have started a new school that will go in the Beekman Tower but is temporarily by the courthouses. What they have not decided yet is whether children in the entire area (Tribeca, FiDi, and BPC) will be sent to the nearest school or whether it will be some lottery process. If you are lotteried into 234 in Tribeca, you should be happy. Likewise the BPC north school is pretty good I hear. The new schools in FiDi and south BPC are anybody's guess at this point.

It's in District 2, which encompasses most of Manhattan under 96th street (except Lower East Side and Upper West Side.). For now it is zoned with Tribeca PS 234, which is excellent, BUT... is also overcrowded and accepts students through lottery. The situation is supposed to be remedied by 2011, so it depends how old your kids are.
