Why does StreetEasy shape conversations?

Discussion about
It seems that StreetEasy deletes posts from people that they find to not agree with what they think. The point of deleting a post is if it's either offensive or the poster is spamming the board. An example of this spam would be the idiots that keep saying, "Bid low, bid low, bid low, bid low" over and over again. That is spamming the board and should be deleted. Not someone's honest opinion and response to a question. So I am asking StreetEasy to please stop being jerks and shaping conversations. However, I fear that this will also be deleted...

Well, I'd delete any post calling me a jerk in a second with no apologies. Try a little more sugar, and a little less salt in your daily life and watch how much better you'll feel.

I don't care if I'm calling them jerks, if they didn't do all that stuff, they wouldn't be jerks... If they delete the original post or this post then there is obviously a problem with this site in terms of conversation shaping, it should not be done. I don't pay $10 a month to subscribe to the site so that my posts will be deleted and I'm completely sick of it.

All different kinds... generally just things they don't like to read...

#6, you'd be a little more credible if you could give some specific examples.

The bid low posters are not spammers, they have a valid message, the argument was put forth in the first posts and now it is summed up in a few phrases in the ongoing campaign.

We only remove posts that contain excessive profanity, or posts that are obviously trolling a discussion. In this thread we removed some comments containing profanity (with no useful content) as well as some comments where the user pretended to be a StreetEasy administrator. Generally our time is limited to moderate these forums, as we are a small company, but we do not remove posts indiscriminately.

...the original poster is a joker and a nuisance.

He suggests we remove spam, but he generates spam endlessly. Streams of random vulgarity, and otherwise profane useless posts, more than one hundred in the past several weeks have to be deleted.

There is a small number of people who regularly post this junk, and outside of that group, we have removed very few posts. In the few cases where we made an "editorial" decision, which went beyond civility, we have explained our decision.

When you abuse our service and the community of users, we absolutely reserve the right to delete anything and everything you have to say. You don't get the luxury of sending streams of junk and then asking us to take your complaint seriously because one of the few remotely useful things you post gets deleted in the mix. It's not a question of shaping discussions, its a question of how much time we have to babysit.

Here here! Streeteasy is such a great source. Unfortunately there are a number of imbeciles who make the sight trying so thanx, support_walker, for cleaning things up.

Agreed. The guy who posts this is probably the same one who keeps posting bid low. I imagine he is also the same guy who posts the occasional post that just says nuggit. He also probably argues with himself on here just to generate controversey. I am very much against censorship, but I applaud Street easy for deleting immature junk that serves no purpose but to annoy.

Everyone is so so serious here. This is a direct result of NY real estate prices increasing 20%+ in the past 3 months. Everyone is ON EDGE!

Where are all the naysayers....

Everyone is ON EDGE here. All are looking to buy and nothing reasonable to be found...will we have to leave Manhattan...THIS IS THE QUESTION.

The dollar is weak weak weak...

I have to agree. Prices are so out of control. Between my wife and I (who both make nice salaries) we find it increasingly difficult to find a place we like that we consider to still be affordable. I have completely given up on Manhattan and frankly I think most of Brooklyn and Queens to be overpriced. I can't justify paying 600K for a 1000 sq ft apartment.

Friends in other cities are buying 3 and 4 bedroom houses for 300K. I think the housing market here really needs to put itself in check or else people will start leaving in droves.

The bid low poster did not start this thread, stop trying to blame everything on bid low posters. They are just trying to inspire some common sense.

The bid low thing is completely idiotic, childish and lets not forget, it's spamming! It's completely useless and unwanted. For the record, I am NOT a broker.
