Discussion about
What is the current average cost to move one person from one apartment to another, both in elevator buildings? Does cost change for a move within Manhattan versus between Manhattan and Brooklyn? Thanks.
I think it would be very difficult to give you an "average" cost given the variables, e.g, size of your apartment; whether you're having the movers pack, and if so, how much stuff you have; distance between buildings, etc.
I can tell you that for my recent move I got both "flat" and "hourly rates." I took my chances with the hourly rate, and it ended up being 1/3 less than the lowest flat rate I received. (I also found out that hourly rates hovered around $120-140 for a crew of 4-5 men and a truck. These were with well-known companies that carried insurance. If you're willing to go with no insurance companies, you can get lower rates.)
Based on my recent move with All Star in Brooklyn, a full one-size bedroom of stuff in one elevator bldg to another (with having the movers pack) was just under $2000 (excluding tips).
I believe if you are moving into a coop and/or rental managed by a major company you are required to have an insured mover.
