Discussion about
We have the private area in the back at Shaffer City, November 11th, 6:30pm. 21st Street between 5th and 6th, north side of the street. Food will be available, extra $10. Okay, everyone show up. I will be there, unless I have delivered or am in throes of labor.
so now i'm supposed to say" I know you are, but what am I?" are you in fucking third grade?
Thank you all for a lovely evening, it was great seeing you again. Let's do this again soon.
Thank you, hfscomm1, for not showing up.
Chicken.
Glamma: missed you.
So nice to meet u 30yrs, evnyc, nyc10023, trinityparent, and all other SE users I had not the pleasure of meeting before! As much as I wish I could quit my SE addiction, I really apprecciate the intelligence level of many posters here. Alan, AR and Michael, always a pleasure to see u.
we had a great crowd in a very good space. it was fun.
never good to play favorites, but i really wish last night's visitor without a handle would name himself and join the fray. how's that for a newbie?

AR: could you elaborate on this mystery. someone showed up and wouldn't reveal their identity? or are you referring to your unpleasant stalker/blogger?
no, neither. we had a delightful visitor who has contented himself with visiting the site for the last year or so, but has never commented. hence, he had no "identity," other than his own, of course.
flatironj, sorry. you must have thought me insane. there is also a flatirony who comments, i was confused.
He's ConnecticutBoy to me now.
I have been debating going to one of these events but meeting in person never really intrigued me enough to get off my ass and plan it. I researched properties, listened to the intelligentsia about where we are all headed -or not, posted once in a while, then finally bought an apartment, and I'm still here. I didn't think it would happen but the SE forum has become more than just a tool. Can't seem to shake it so may as well join in. I hope there will be another opportunity.
Not Connecticut Boy but maybe Connecticut Old Man. There was no attempt to create mystery or intrigue. I have been religiously reading SE for over a year and have posted only once or twice with stupid questions. I've enjoyed the insight, the humor and even the drama. As I get closer to moving and buying I'm sure I'll post more frequently.
I met some fascinating entertaining people last night and I thank you for inviting me and I look forward to future get togethers. Next time I'll drink even more wine but stay in a hotel and drive home the next day.
Jerry
Dreamer, no stupid questions here. Maybe stupid answers, but at least they're entertaining! I'm impressed this drew out-of-staters!
oh man oh man i'm sorry i missed it last night. i'm sure a great time was had by all. i am trying to get a renovation finished before i go to miami on saturday, so i was up to my ears in hawthorne yellow until 11 pm, but obviously this is no excuse, as nyc10023 managed to make it! giving dolly lens a run for her money huh! missed you all and will definitely be at the next one...
i think i need to get a nanny or a divorce in order to make one of these. so, really, how fun are they?
Uwsmom: I've had great luck posting on the Columbia U Teacher's College website for sitters.
Glamma: I was hoping to see you. Have fun in Miami.
Ugh - I totally have sitter fright but i've heard good things about teacher's college. one of my "jobs" this summer was to find someone pt. the anxiety of it all got the best of me. though i did recently run into someone i used once. maybe keep her in my back pocket for the next get-together.
btw 10023, before it's too late, the very best of luck with the new little one. hope everything goes well for both of you!!
thanks nyc10023! DEFINITELY will be at the next one.. best of luck for an easy delivery! any day now right?
It was fun. Nice to meet aboutready, mimi, 30 and others........
Anybody under 30 in this group?
the waitress
please. someone the other day taunted another poster with a jibe about armistice day being changed to veteran's day. the post itself aged everyone within a 200 word radius by at least 10 years. not to mention the poster outed him/her self as one of the few posters in the world with coal burning computer.
here is a pic of the computer:

Yes, it was our old flatulent friend columbiacounty who is still angry about the renaming of Armistace Day to Veterans Day by Eisenhower. Ever since that time he's walked around angry at everyone and everything, and routinely makes nasty comments at anyone who encounters him. He does have a soft spot for his kid sister aboutready and has tried on numerous occasions to help her with her frequent toilet problems.
Ah, apologies columbiacounty, forgot that it should be spelled Armistice.
ah yes. i've gathered that this may be a somewhat mature crowd. i'm 33 and often feel like one of the kids on the board (though this probably has less to do with age and more to do with the fact that i know very little about real estate).
perhaps "mature" is not the right word.
'perhaps "mature" is not the right word.'
hahahaha
Too bad the rufus isn't around anymore, because at least we didn't do this: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/11/us/11foodfight.html?_r=1&scp=1&sq=food%20fight&st=cse
I had a great time meeting and re-meeting people.
nyc10023 & aboutready, thanks for proposing this and making arrangements!
apologies for unleashing that rude beast upon this site again. i should have known. mea culpa
UWSmom, I'm slightly younger than you and I also feel rather like a kid. But I think that's just because the age of fist real estate purchase got pushed back for people of our generation. We didn't have the experience.
Anyway, hfscomm, you're very silly spending so much time cyber-stalking someone. Had you shown up in person, we could have deployed boxing gloves and taken bets. Braak braak! Chicken! My money's on AR.
I'm 32 and I was just wondering if the generational gap at the meet-ups is uncomfortable for those that attend. I'm sure after the first couple drinks, everybody's nerves are settled.
Geez, this generation gap thing is sounding awfully serious. I thought people lived in Manhattan (ie not the burbs) so they can be young ..sort of...for a long time.
Hmm. No comment.
But age of first RE purchase among our friends from college is highly correlated to when they became DINKS - i.e. age at marriage. The people who got married right away after college bought first.
Who is going this year?
