Discussion about
Me and my girlfriend are looking to buy, and one of the neighborhoods we've found some affordable places in is Prospect Heights. After some research we found a number of forum discussions mentioning that there's been quite a number of assaults in the area around Washington Ave (mainly to the east of Washington). However, all these posts were from 2007 and beyond, and we're wondering what people think of the area nowadays. The place we're considering is on Sterling and Washington
In my personal experience, you're pretty safe there.
The problem areas are the parts that brokers sell you as PH but are really getting out there way down eastern parkway.
The location you mentioned is two blocks off vanderbilt, so you're doing pretty well.
And check out Tom's restaurant if you haven't already.
east of washington is crown heights. i lived at st. marks and classon for two years and i wouldn't categorize it as safe. Nothing ever happened to me, but there were frequent shooting incidents. go check out brooklyian.com and see for yourself. also the presence of both crips and bloods tags made it worse, it gave the appearance of a turf war.
Again, I personally never experienced anything violent, but i couldn't take the psychological toll. yes there're precautions you can take like not talking on your cellphone while walking and be aware of your surroundings. but for me, the fact that i was apprehensive of coming home after 11pm every weekend was just no fun.
