Discussion about
Oprah and Tyler Perry are distributing this film in wide release. Off topic for SE -- but amazingly compelling. Poverty. Rape. HIV+. Down's Syndrome. Illiterate. Morbid Obesity. Must see. It REALLY made me step back and be thankful that I was not dealt as many short straws as this young girl. Reading these discussions, in light of the idea that life is really crappy for some folk, does give me pause.

Anyone read the book? I have it on order from the library, but it hasn't come in yet.

Mfox: call it luck, whatever you will. I have been SO lucky in my life thus far. Nice to have the occasional reminder.

It did make me appreciate what I have, and all that I started out with in life...

I try to take a deep breath every day and be grateful that I was born into the Golden Sperm Club. I see less dramatic versions of this regularly in my work in social services and am consistently aware of my good fortune.
