Discussion about
Anyone know anything about this building???
I would also like to get some info on this buidling - the apts. are large for the $.
we looked in the building but passed. The location is great but the building looks and feels really dated. Walk into the lobby and you'll know immediately what's in store. Mirrors on ceilings, dark columns, vinyl sofas, faux plants. Early 80s to the max. The apartments have extremely low ceilings- 8 ft (I could touch the ceilings and I confirmed this with the broker) and the larger ones are combinations with awkward layouts. We looked at a 1600 sq ft apt and couldn't believe how small the place felt.
Also, the Lucida is going up across the street and apparently construction noise has been a real issue with the tenants. The broker even mentioned this. 111 E 85th has a nice checklist of perks (ps6, garage in building, roof deck, NO gym though) but definitely the ugly duckling in the neighborhood.
OP here. I actually just went to see a 4 bedroom apt. in the building - duplex with over 4,000 square feet. I have to agree with poster number 3- although I did not think the lobby was all that bad. The building is a bit dated but if you are looking for value for square footage - this is it. The apt. I looked at was sprawling and in good condition. Not very good views but still a bang for the buck in comparison to what is out there if you have 4 kids and need space.
I live on this block and can tell you for sure that the construction noise from the Lucida is horrific. Pictures shake on the walls of my apt.
they have been excavating the site for almost a year now and still have not started building up.
would not purchase at 111 until construction is done across the street.
The construction noise is temporary so this should not stop anyone from buying in 111. Poster #4 hit it right - you definitely get a "bang for the buck".
