(Discussing Astor Place) This is a spectacular building that reminds me of the art deco era.

I'm guessing you are in the minority. It's hard for me to imagine a worse choice for a spot that's bounded by the beautiful buildings of Cooper Union, the Public Theater and 770 Broadway. Many architects consider it the worst from Gwathmey Siegel.

I really like the building. The top is a bit square, but it might get nicer over time. It is strange how hot or cold people are about this building. I wonder why it causes such a strong reaction.

This building is in a horrible location. Kmart, now a walgreens. There is no value to a building in this location. There is also a lot of homeless people in the area and a lot of car/truck traffic.

Big box & national brand retail is taking over NYC just like it has everywhere else. That's not specific to area near Astor Place. Like beckman said, it's an area with great buildings, it's also got great people, great food and it's at the intersection of several great neighborhoods. Of course, even with all of this, the building in question is still ugly!
