Discussion about PS90 at 220 West 148th Street in Central Harlem
have been waiting to take a look... the one in contract, 5A, looks nice...none of the lower ones in the A-line are up yet, does that mean they are not done?

I love the idea of a renovated school, but I know nothing about the neighborhood. What's it like? How many units will be in the bldg? When is it supposed to be ready to live in?
I looked at a co-op that was nearly across the street (The Washington I think?) Wasn't a big fan of the area mostly because it is on the 3 only, not the 2/3, and the ABCD is not that close (it's at 145th and st. nick). It's right next to a police station, which may be a noise concern. I think that the eastern half of the street is some sort of subsidized housing, but I'm not sure. They're uniform buildings and all have these placards outside that say "No trespassing."
I don't think its very gentrified up there if that is something you're concerned about. As I said, we just didn't look much at that area purely due to subway service.
I did some more looking. Most of the street is comprised of HCCI subsidized rental units.

Amy Gladys Farrell Houses
Named after Assemblyman Herman Denny Farrell’s mother, this development houses 100 affordable rental units. This unit is located at 202-218 W. 148th St.
Site 15 – West 148th Street
This site houses 87 rental units for low income residents. It is part of an effort which revitalized formerly blighted block and provided 300 new units of housing including 105 cooperative
Has anyone looked at these? They seem pretty nice for the price (location aside). What do people know about this development?
I hate it, because school space is needed. DOE and the city need to have a long-term vision and not give up on space like this. I would not buy just on principle.
I agree. The DOE needs to have a long term vision. But was there controversy about this building being converted to condos or was the liking alternative the wrecking ball?
Quick google search reveals that the building was abandoned for 30 years. I can't see how the DOE would have found the money to fix it up. But I admire the principle.
PS 90 would have cost roughly about $40 million to restore so the the DOE felt it was not worth it to them to do so. You can't fault the developer for this- they only got a chance to develop this space because the DOE passed on it first.
Anyone have an update on this dev?
going to look on tuesday, would love some input on the area
if you are going on tuesday why dont you wait till you see the place.
Mrs1007 I'd be interested to know what you think of the construction.
I am thinking about the CO-OP that mmarquez110 mentioned above 4 years ago. They're priced right and the area is OK.
