I miss the days of my 8.25% Mellon Bank passbook savings account.

wow 8.25 thats pretty sick. When was this? I feel fortunate right now to have a 1.50% on my northeast community sweep account.

1977. I distinctly remember that Al Stewart's "Year of the Cat" was playing on the car radio -- as a newly-released song -- on the way home from the bank after I opened the account.

Will Easily be up 1/2% in a year. I'd bet more than that.

I had 10% as a kid (early 80s) on my savings account. Bought gov't bonds as a teen at 8% (and I thought that was low).

Those were the days, it was awesome, double-digit inflation and everything. Damn Volcker and his stupid meddling! If it weren't for him, I bet we'd be seeing 3-digit interest rates by now. We'd be behind Zimbabwe, sure, but it'd be much better than this stupid period of price stability.
