The state courts will see 4.7 million foreclosure and non-foreclosure cases by the end of the year, a record number, according to the New York Times. Many of those... [more]

The article is referring to NY(S), not NY(C). Everyone in NYC has multi-million dollar bonuses, rich parents, and trust funds. No one will foreclosure here. Manhattan is an island, nothing that effects the rest of the state or the world will cross the rivers surrounding us. NYC is special!

inonada, how's that?

Oh, and NYC's unemployment rate is at 10% vs. overall state's 8.6% (only 7.6% if excluding NYC). That's because for the reasons stated above, people in NYC don't really need to work...

Perfect! I think we should demolish the tunnels and bridges "I am Legend"-style just to be safe, though. You never know what might be let through otherwise.

Well, you would also have to fence off anything above 96th street, or below houston and east of broadway. Berlin Wall style. And ring-fence the projects in Chelsea and Columbus Circle. And all those pesky rent controlled, stabilized, etc places in "real" manhattan. And also fence off those pesky new low-income housing units in Tribecca, etc.

"The state courts will see 4.7 million foreclosure and non-foreclosure cases... " What does that mean? The total number of NYS Sup Ct cases regardless of the subj. matter being RE? I don't get that sentence. There is no way the NYS courts see 4.7 million cases a year--or even in a decade or century.

Astonishing as it seems, the 4.7M is per http://www.nycourts.gov/admin/financialops/Bgt10-11/ExecSum.pdf. No clue what they're counting, though.

Now I see it. It says "4,700,000 filings". So cases would be some fraction of that.
