we looked in jc & at liberty harbor, gulls cove, etc. you may already be aware of this, but liberty harbor was built on a former "brown" field, whcih means it used to be dumping ground for toxic waste like chromium (the same stuff as in the erin brokovich movie). it's been cleaned up now, but there are no regulations or checks in place to make sure it was cleaned up properly, other than what the developer says they did. in the 50's jc developers paid to cart away slag (waste that is a byproduct of industry) to use as fill all over jc, so there are "orphan" sites where there is waste, even if it wasnt located in a place of industry. jc is famous for having higher rates of cancer & respiratory issues among its population as compared to other communities w/o a history of toxic waste. anyone in jc w/ a child under the age of 6 automatically qualifies to participate in a rutgers study of toxic chemicals in the body, which, at least to us, said something.

if this is a concern to you, just google jc & chromium. also check out jc list for info on it too. when we were looking, our agent didnt tell us any of this info. good luck!
