Discussion about
Seller looking for Broker for UES apartment. Thanks in advance for any recommendations.
Can you share more information about the apartment? Are we talking 740 Park? Ruppert Towers?
"Need" a broker? HA!! You are obviously a broker shill. No one "needs' a broker!!!!!!!!!!!!
West 81, Post war coop, east of lex.. thanks for reply ..
?? "West 81" as in West 81st Street? "UES apartment" as in upper east side? That's a pretty unique apartment.
IMO,
The whole idea of this website is to get rid of brokers and their stupid "exclusives". They're analog in a digital world.
SE gives you everything you need. What else can they provide?
I don't work the UES. If I had to do a transaction there I would probably interview both Jacky Teplitzky (Elliman) and Barbara Fox (runs her own smaller boutique firm).
iamshort, the Internet can give you lots of data. Data, however, is not brokerage anymore than access to case law is lawyering.

People go to RE brokers because they didn't have a database of listings to peruse. Watch commissions plummet in the future as your need becomes irrelevant.
I don't think there is any value added by highjacking yet another thread on SE and turning it into "what is the value added by a broker" discussion. That is not what the OP sought in this thread. As if there is anything left to say on this topic, if it needs to be discusses again, start a separate thread please.
cmist: The broker density in non-prime UES is quite high. Swing a dead cat, and you'll probably hit several, including one or two good ones.
When we bailed out of the East Side and returned home to the Left Bank ten years ago, we had a great experience with Tristan Harper of Elliman.
Frontporch and West81st, thank you very much for your response. For the record, i am not a broker..if anyone has any other recommendations that i may consider.
I like Stacey Froelich at Corcoran. She wasn't my broker when I bought my apartment (I didn't use a broker), but she was at a few open houses on the UES that I attended, and I liked her very much. If/When I sell my apartment, I'll call her. I found that she priced her apartments properly, and wasn't a high pressure or pushy broker.
I'm not hijacking the thread. I'm telling the OP that they don't need a broker, and this website will do just fine.
I think Streeteasy lists the most active brokers in any given building when you search the building. That is a good place to start as they'll probably have leads from past apartments, know the board, etc. Ditto, you may do the same on a few comparable buildings very nearby. I would interview the most active in your specific area and see who you like best/who has the most relevant experience (ie: if you are selling a studio, whoever dominates the ultra lux 3 beds next door is not really relevant). Good luck!
West81st - I second Tristan Harper, he represented an apartment that we bid on (UWS) and he was incredibly responsive. We ended up getting an accepted bid on another apt at the exact time as his sellers also accepted our bid. We went with the other one. So we have no experience beyond the bidding process with him but I was very impressed with our interactions with him.

your a jerk-0ff. keep your opinion to yourself. the op obviously feels as if he/she wants someone to help them in their transaction. you are adding nothing to this.
Another option you may want to consider, a hybrid FSBO/broker representation. It's not for everyone but I have used this method successfully. Savings can be quite substantial...Either way best of luck selling your home!
