Just curious – what’s the typical commission split for a retail broker working at a major firm?
50% is the standard split. Some are 30% but bump up to 50% after you close 6 deals (Citi Habitats). One of my agent friends who's recently interviewed at a few places says Bond asks for $350 up front for headshots and biz cards plus they make you pay your E&O and Citihabitats doesn't pay you until you've done 6 deals.
Larger boutiques like Mont Sky can pay around 75% split to the agent. Then there are the 100% split focused firms like Rutinberg, but be careful as it's really 90% for most of these places as they have a 10% transaction fee plus a lot of other fees that will make the net split a lot less than 100%.
