Has anyone ever been to the Architectural Digest Home Show? I was thinking of going to the upcoming show in a few weeks. http://www.archdigesthomeshow.com
I've been. It's fun--especially if you are renovating. Not so much for decoration. Lots of paint/appliance/plumbing/lighting vendors. Plus I got a free year of Archit. Digest with the price of admission. It doesn't take too long--an hour or so is plenty. I saw the gayest light in the world there that made me laugh and it ultimately became our dining room chandelier. http://www.schonbek.com/geometrix/designs/davinci.html Was worth going just for that.
I have to ask: do you ever actually put it in the dishwasher?
I DID! For the first time, last week. Some water marks (have to turn up the JetDry setting next time) but really was easy and worked. Despite cleaning, post-reno the dust kept settling for about 2 weeks after we moved in. It got on the crystals and over the last 7 months it lost some sparkle. All better now after a run through the d/w. The light looks like we broke off a piece of the sun when it is up all the way. In the mornings it casts small prism rainbows all over the place. At night, with the dimmer, it makes the dining room look like it is painted with venetian plaster. Anyone who walks in and sees it on breaks into a smile immediately. And we owe it all to the AD Home Show.
Nice, maybe we'll get it for our bedroom.
Thank you lobster for bringing that up, I love going to all design show's and I had forgotten about that one.
Kyle, I must admit I might not have been that brave to consider that light and still now I can really see the appeal plus you reminded me, I love things that put a smile on my face.
Thanks Kyle. I'm not yet at the paint/plumbing stage yet, but I always enjoy looking at lighting and planning for the future. Now I just have to find a place in the far west 50's to get some coffee before/after the show.
You really never do know where you'll find things that you love/work for you at the home shows. Went to the show at Manhattan House last year, just because I wanted to see what they did with "undistinguished" architecture vs. the usual grand town house picked for the show.
Saw a kitchen done with a very unusual painted finish (not venetian plaster)involving several coats of some special paint that made the walls glow. Loved it, had the painters come, experimented with colors, and FINALLY had the perfect solution for a main corridor in our apartment.
I've been to the Architectural Digest Home Show before, and walked away with some good ideas, but no ideas were as dramatic as that chandelier in the image of a giant disco ball! Now, I am intrigued enough to go again lol
I also went to the Kips Bay show at Manhattan House and was impressed by some of the transformed rooms. I enjoyed seeing what the designers could do with a more ordinary environment as opposed to their more usual venues.
