"Atheist" - so are a lot of people. President Obama even went out of his way, when discussing the religious make-up of the U.S. in his state of the union, to be inclusive and included "and non-believers".

"unemployed blowhard": Tom Leykis made many millions of dollars during his 20 year radio career and had the largest audience share on the West Coast (he was not syndicated in New York). After Howard Stern, Leykis is probably the U.S.'s most successful radio personality of the last 20 years. I've read that Mort Zuckerman is likely to challenge Sen. Hillibrand, and that there is an "80-90% chance" that Larry Kudlow will challenge Chuck Shumer. Such is the damage wrought by Obamacare: this is expected to be SUCH a Republican year, that even Shumer is viewed as vulnerable.

My question is this: Why, with every other Democrat running for national office being dragged down in the polls by the national Dem party, is Rick Lazio unable to get any traction in the polls against Andy Cuomo? Will this last? Are Cuomo's tax hikes unavoidable?

I doubt if any politician will clean up ny city or state finances. Only a financial crisis will force that, a la greece, sort of... So I don't think cuomo in his own right will make a huge difference either way. It's possible this country will face various municipal and state crises, and we'll see what happens.
