Discussion about
Faith Popcorn -- an acclaimed futurist and Obama speech writer (she is credited with coining the phrase "we are the ones we have been waiting for") -- has sold her nyc studio. From her website: "The present, as you know it, was once a Faith Popcorn's BrainReserve Future -- as we envisioned it." Her birth sirname was Plotkin.
Here is Ms Plotkin/Popcorn's apartment:

Others caught this listing. Its pretty significant so I think it deserves its own thread.
She's a world-renowned trend-setter, so SELL SELL SELL!!!
(btw, "Faith Plotkin" sounds much less trend-setting.)
No pied-a-terre allowed, so this was her home?
Depressing.
why depressing?
maybe she's moving to dc to work in the white house
She was a futurist. Her job was to predict trends....
This is obviously very bearish. She wanted to hang on to her beloved home, but she sees a market collapse.
or didnt....
It looks and feels like one of those extended-stay corporate hotels, tired, impersonal, unloved.
She looks kinda scary..
To be fair, the agent made her take down the Hope poster.
And Riversider, you wrote she "was" a futurist, but she still "is" a futurist. And what she sees for nyc re is apparently frightening.
But with common charges at $577 a month, it is much cheaper, larger, and nicer than most hotel rooms, which is probably how she used it. Maybe she really is that smart.
And how do you value the cachet that she lived there?
Fancy name for market research. She pitches marketing trends.

What kind of a futurist buys a studio on the Upper East Side? It's bleak. What sort of person would make their permanent home a place where you can't invite anyone?
FAITH WRITES: We watch. We listen. We intuit. We connect the dots. We continually ask ourselves, why am I seeing this? What is this connected to? What may this effect? We monitor the pulse of culture as it shifts and help companies ensure that their brand remains culturally relevant for the future by always looking through the lens of the Trends.
gee....i wonder how this kind of business does in a downturn...
Flmao. I'd take a dog walker over a futurist as a future son in law. AND that's saying alot.
w67, what do you have against dog walkers?
She identifies Jiffy Lube as a client. Apparently she benefited them by pointing out women take their cars in for repairs. She taught Tyson that they can position Pork as a health food for women because it has protein, and helped G.E. financial services realize that women can be ripped off just as much as men.
It sounds like she's good at what she does; help companies sell product.
not to mention emailing david axelrod this gem: "we are the ones we have been waiting for"
For years she had a house near my friends in East Hampton. She may still have that house.

Sunday. When I was a little boy, our family new to America wo a lick of English, the days my mom was sick my dad would take all 3 children to hunt's point to provision his store. 4 in the morning. He'd often take us to the dry goods/ Pet food isle. He'd always point out how rich the US was. Look at all this food, just for dogs! We are going to be alright!
So to me making a full time living as a dog walker is all that is right and wrong with the US. We are a nation so rich we feed our dogs better than most 3rd world feeds their children. The fact healthy normal 20yos can actually make a living walking said 'dog' speaks to how 'fat' america has become with this last bubble.
Oh, I feel the same way with re borkers. You got healthy literate Americans whose sum total of their life is wedging themselves btwn a transaction, with a 6% that is like a birthrite/religion to them. F'k if we had their ethos in medicine we'd be chopping off limbs w hand axes in the back yards.
front pouch...when we're dealing with a futurist, all moves have import....(and the cool thing is, thanks to public property records, we get her re insights for free)...so are you saying she is bullissh on e hamptons?
w67, I agree that it's crazy that dogs are getting better fed than many people, but I don't have an issue with dog walkers making a living providing a service. Do you have a problem with restaurant workers for cooking food for others? What about gardeners? Dry cleaners? Nannies? Housekeepers?
Sunday... it only makes sense bc of the fat dog and what it represents. No harm in honest real work. My mom was a nanny/housekeeper.
A fat dog represents an owner who is a couch potato.
Please tell me how a futurist missed selling into the greatest RE bubble in history and finally sold after a major down turn for a steep loss -- and priced it wrong all the way down. I guess when you are the one you have been waiting for (many other cultures ascribe that position to G*d's Messiah ), you don't need to deal with trite indignities like money and profits.
Because she's not a futurist. She's market research/advertising.
Riversider: Yes, and she had a really good publicist to book her on T.V. shows and get her good ink. ( It wasn't me, btw.)
