Charles Utti, the rental agent at The Astor (235 W 75th) is a terrible broker. In addition to the lies and deceitful information provided on the services to be delivered, his tactic is to lure the tenants into the lease signing phase, and then changing the pre-negotiated terms in his favor. As a potential tenant, the time and energy lost over this deceitful act beyond frustrating, but this is exponentially compounded when the tenant is in a tight bind for time and needs to execute on a new rental quickly, leaving him or her with no solution but to agree to a lease they did not otherwise intend on getting into. Moral: DO NOT RENT AT THE ASTOR, ESPECIALLY IS CHARLES UTTI IS THE AGENT!!

I'm glad someone posted this actually.
I had a waste-of-time experience with these jokers as well, last year.

The prices on craigslist, the phone, and in person if you show up are all very different (by 20-40%).

Also, in the midst of the economy imploding 12-15 months ago, these idiots were actually taking units off the market to "further renovate" them and price them +$500..

They seem to take the strategy of overpricing units and letting them sit 3-6 months, until some sucker bites.

I am a resident at The Astor (235 W 75th) and rented BECAUSE of Charles Utti. This smart, business savvy, personable, professional has always gone above and beyond for the residents here. The fact that Charles basically runs all aspects of the rental and move in process, by himself, every day, show management's FULL TRUST in HIS ABILITY as a broker in NYC. Anyone who rents here does so under NO DURESS and could AT WORST lose small application fee.

Don't like the Astor, move out!
