Is this allowable...Lease Renewal Decision

My property manager likes to give us the lease like 4-5 months prior to the end date of the lease...i think by law (maybe someone can confirm this) and according to the lease, I have 60 days to return the lease and decide whether to renew or not. This puts me in a very precarious situation- i basically either have to (i) just renew or (ii) not renew, but as it is so far before my end date of my lease, not have a new apt secured. It is very rare to see listings for 3 months out when looking for an apartment. Also, would it be advisable to just blow throught the 60 day period so it gives me time to nail down a new apartment? Thank you.
Curious about this too. Does this mean if kermit delines a renewal outright that there are going to be open houses for 3-4 months with strangers going through the apartment?
you can ask them if you can do month-to-month and see what they say...
It sounds like a technique by the landlord to minimize his/her uncertainty. I think you can simply tell them that you don't know what you want to do yet and won't know for a couple of months. Come up with a good reason for this, like the fact that you might not know some issue with your life plans (e.g., job situation, might move in with boyfriend, might need another bedroom, whatever). For the same reason you cannot find apartments out there marketing 4-5 months in advance of your move-in date, the landlord is unlikely to start marketing your apartment now.
IMO, a landlord would typically start marketing a place 60 days before a vacancy, so this is the appropriate timeframe for them to push you to do a lease renewal.
BTW, if you are not rent stabilized, I may be wrong, but I don't think the law says much of anything about renewal rights or timing.
