Discussion about
How & when do you think it will affect real estate in Brooklyn Heights? http://brooklynpaper.com/stories/33/10/33_10_ac_witnesses_update.html
Wow.
For ten years I prayed and prayed and prayed that this day would come.
Maybe now Brooklyn Heights residents can take back their Sundays and not have those unwanted visitors ... and not have to worry about being accosted on the sidewalks anymore.
Deprived of their building, they'll become poltergeists and haunt BH 24/7 for the rest of eternity ... even saying "hello" to you as you walk by. Scary.
The bigger effect will be the traffic around the Brooklyn Bridge. That Pearl St approach can back up an hour just from one of their big 18 wheelers trying to park in the building.
Thank you Jehovah!
Oh, and the pearl st approach backs up the Cadman Plaza exit, backs up the BQE.
The traffic gods are with us! Praise be to Jehovah.
NYCMatt what the Hell is your problem? You don't like the Jehovah's Witnesses? Why? Do you hate Jews and homosexuals too?
Asshole
Bslotkin: Not liking the Jehovah's Witnesses does not make NYC Matt an asshole.
It makes him normal.
What? No, there is nothing wrong with Jehovah's Witnesses. You are just close minded.
I mean, it's not as if they're Seventh Day Adventists or anything.
Why are you insensitive?
BSLOTKIN, Jevhovah's are the only group that I know of that peddle their beliefs door to door. Unless you have been invited to my home (friends, family, delivery people) don't ring my bell. And when I tell you that I'm not interested in what you have to say or your literature don't ring my bell again the following weekend, and the weekend after, and the weekend after... Yeah, it's a mystery why some people don't like Jehovah's witnesses.
Also, do not block my path on the sidewalk as I'm walking down Joralemon Street to ask me if I've heard the "Good News".
And I can't imagine how many forests it takes to print all that "good news" or the amount of fuel it takes to drive all that "good news" all over the country.
I thought there was a specific reason for the headquarters there. Something to do with the religion and access to the sky. Did the access point move upstate?
Jehovah flipped and is now in the Wintess Protection Program
bslotkin - "...You don't like the Jehovah's Witnesses? Why? Do you hate Jews and homosexuals too?"
Funny, since the jw's hate homosexuals and blacks. Not too sure about the jews though.
What happened to the Harry Krishnas? They were always signing and clanking down 55th street on my way to grammar school.... I really liked the head twirling with the streamers... I was like thatz so kewl!
I dunno, w67. They used to be more common everywhere, don't see them much anymore. Maybe their ethos doesn't attract the youths of today.
i like the mitzvah tanks myself. don't see them in manhattan so often these days, but heard and saw one a couple of weeks ago.
Teenmc: You NYC folks are quite opinitated bunch! So what is it that the WTS knows that you don't know? there must be a reason for their pulling out of Brooklyn!
>> What happened to the Harry Krishnas
They work in holllywood now -- the smurfs, blue man group, arrested development, avatar? All propaganda vehicles for the movement. They get kids used to seeing blue people.
This is really, really horrible.
First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a communist;
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist;
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew;
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak out for me.
Niemöller's published 1946 speeches mention Communists, the incurably ill, Jews or Jehovah's Witnesses (depending on which speech), and people in occupied countries; the 1955 text, a paraphrase by a German professor in an interview, lists: Communists, Socialists, "the schools, the press, the Jews, and so on," and ends with "the Church." However, as cited by Richard John Neuhaus in the November 2001 issue of First Things, when "asked in 1971 about the correct version of the quote, Niemöller said he was not quite sure when he had said the famous words but, if people insist upon citing them, he preferred a version that listed "the Communists", "the trade unionists", "the Jews", and "me".
^---- Proselytizing jehovah's witnesses
No, you are simply intolerant.
The intolerance is horrible.
blotskin, I really think these comments are all in good humor. I too do not believe in being "intolerant", and yet as someone who was raised a JW I will share my opinion. Intolerance is a huge part of the JW religion. They are not "allowed" to associate with worldly people (people not in the faith) and therefore will preach to you, but have nothing to do with you (unless you accept). They control based on fear (armaggedon, excommunication etc.) and do not respect other people's choice of religion, beliefs etc. Their intolerance (they know the truth-everyone else is wrong) breeds other's intolerance toward them.
Blotskin is right on the money. My father became a JW when I was in H.S. and it was like he became brainwashed overnight. My brother was in a horrible accident about a year later and he would have had him DIE rather than have him get the blood transfusions that saved his life.
I don't know how I'm expected to tolerate the fact that my father was willing to kill his child in the name of following these strangers.
Wow, this could really hurt dumbo short term. Thats a LOT LOT LOT of inventory to be adding back.
And does this mean 70 washington residents get screwed again by developers (JW parking lot next door)
""...You don't like the Jehovah's Witnesses? Why? Do you hate Jews and homosexuals too?"

I know, its hillarious... I was told by one I'm going to burn in hell.
Though a whole lot of 'em *are* black...
The intolerance is growing on this board and isn't appropriate.
It's not growing because of this board. It's always been there, this thread just gives a reason to discuss it. If you like your head in the sand don't click on it.
Quote from bslotkin - "The intolerance is growing on this board and isn't appropriate."
Shakes head, rolls-eyes... the intolerant complaining about intolerance? Time to up your IQ points.
BTW, manhattan is 100% on target.
> Shakes head, rolls-eyes... the intolerant complaining about intolerance? Time to up your IQ points
I agree with that.
Though it was anti-semite week a few weeks back.
Stop this now.
We don't need this.
bslotkin, instead of posting the same thing over and over why don't you react to what has been posted? Did you read this?
"Their intolerance (they know the truth-everyone else is wrong) breeds other's intolerance toward them."
What do you think of the JW intolerance? Is that appropriate?
I did react, to the intolerance people expressed. It isn't appropriate. It doesn't need an explanation. It is pretty naked. Let Jehovah's Witnesses be.
As for JW, they have their beliefs as do other religions. Catholics are especially aggressive and send missionaries throughout the world to "save" people of other religions or without religion and excommunicate those who disagree. Religious Jewish men won't interact with women. Amish don't fraternize. Evangelicals claim homosexuality caused the floods in New Orleans. and so on
I do let JWs be; they have the right to their beliefs just like everyone else (despite how mind boggling those beliefs are). I would never deign to go to their homes and tell them not to believe what they do. But they don't let me or their Brooklyn Heights neighbors be. Stop ringing doorbells, stop trying to convert people.
This post is a test.
"Let Jehovah's Witnesses be."
bslotkin, you make valid points regarding other religions but this thread wasn't about persecuting Jehovah's Witnesses but rather getting them to stop ringing the doorbell. Hardly insensitive and done so with humor. Let's not interject drama and controversy where there is none.
JuiceMan, I think you're missing bslotkin's point: that we should broaden our horizons by making derogatory remarks about Catholics, religious Jews, the Amish and evangelicals. And he (or she) is right.
ah, nicely done. my thoughts exactly.
JM,
This thread not about getting Jehovah's Witnesses to stop ringing doorbells.
somewhereelse,
Did a black JW say you were going to burn in hell? LOL.
re: Jehovah's Witnesses leaving Brooklyn Heights
.
.
Good riddance! And yes, I did hear the "Good News"! One of the City's largest hate group is moving out of NYC! Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
alanhart, interesting perspective, I think you may be on to something. Can't believe I missed that....
what is the broker handling the sales?
Uh, VictoriaHagman is NOT another one of my names.
This is moronic.
> Let Jehovah's Witnesses be.
Asking to "let be" ANY group that rings your doorbell to prosthelytize hate is utterly ridiculous.
> I did react, to the intolerance people expressed. It isn't appropriate. It doesn't need an
> explanation. It is pretty naked.
Intolerance of the intolerant is a GOOD thing. Jeez.
America should have been a bit more intolerant of the Nazis.
Naked intolerance would have been AWESOME, we would have had many fewer deaths.
Tolerating evil *is* evil.
You have it completely backward.
> As for JW, they have their beliefs as do other religions.
So did Charles Manson.
Yes, there are examples of other religions being stupid, but HOW DOES THAT JUSTIFY OTHER STUPIDITY?
Two (or ten) wrongs don't make a right.
Intolerance deserves NO tolerance.
> Religious Jewish men won't interact with women. Amish don't fraternize.
And neither rings my f*ing bell and tells me I'm going to hell.
You can't tell the difference?
BTW, your stereotypes are so wide they're not only vague generalities, they're WRONG.
No wonder you have it backward.
Still at it, and now comparing Jehovah's Witnesses to Nazis? to Charles Manson?
I can't even say "what's next?"
alanhart, No you miss the point. If you are anti-religion, that is your choice, but there is no good reason to be picking on one religion or another.
JuiceMan, I do not believe this is being done in humor. There is clear hate. The last poster in particular is the most hateful.
Shameful
you people are all crackers fighting yourselfes.
While attempting to communicate with a jehovah's witnesses, I thought I was taking crazy pills!
"JWs were told not to engage in any plans for this world, including marriage and having children. Many quit their jobs, sold their homes, and dedicated themselves to going door to door. (Source: 3/97, The Berean Call.) All in all, the Watchtower has predicted the end of the world for 1914, 1918, 1925, 1975, and 1989."
Wasn't there also a 2000 something end-of-the-world prediction as well? Though, I do like the instructions about not procreating due to the "end-of-the-world". They'll eventually dwindle in numbers... yeah right!
bslotkin,
you gotta understand that when i lived in Carroll Gardens (in my 20s), they rang my bell. I came out in underwear, smelling of yesterday's booze and they tried to preach the word of the lord to my hangover. i had to quickly explain/slur to them that an athiest jew will never convert and told them to try the brownstone next door. i'm guessing that my underwear was somewhat open, because they never returned ;)
"the Watchtower has predicted the end of the world for 1914, 1918, 1925, 1975, and 1989."
... these were all peak-prices years in NY real estate.
Coincidence? I think not.
"Still at it, and now comparing Jehovah's Witnesses to Nazis? to Charles Manson?
I can't even say "what's next?""
Yes, your powers of logic aren't very good, we get that.
I wasn't saying JHs were like nazis, just challenging your RIDICULOUS assessment that because someone "believes it", their actions are to be tolerated.
"alanhart, No you miss the point. If you are anti-religion, that is your choice, but there is no good reason to be picking on one religion or another."
This is stupid.
SURE there is. Some are more dangerous than others. Those that cause damage to our world should be pointed out.
"JuiceMan, I do not believe this is being done in humor. There is clear hate. The last poster in particular is the most hateful."
I find it funny that the defender of hate is calling others "hateful"!
Was MLK a hater, too? Ghandi?
You are simply OFF YOUR ROCKER.
Defending evil IS evil. Challenging evil is GOOD.
> ... these were all peak-prices years in NY real estate.
> Coincidence? I think not.
Well, they were RE gurus.... buying in DUMBO when it was worthless and starting to sell out before the peak...
Nutty or eclectic does not mean hateful. Somewhereelse you should get overyourself, try looking at the mirror. I'm Catholic but I sat next to a Jehovah's Witness on a plane and she couldn't have been nicer, and I was the one striking up the conversation. No hate, no preaching, no trying to convert, no forcing literature on me, nothing less than fully pleasant.
Ted Bundy was "fully pleasant", too.
We should move on and deletion this discussion.
"I'm Catholic but I sat next to a Jehovah's Witness on a plane and she couldn't have been nicer"
Two peas in a pod if you ask me
"We should move on and deletion this discussion."
Nah, where's the fun in that?
Son of Sam was GREAT with dogs, too.
> Nutty or eclectic does not mean hateful.
Yes, but hateful is hateful.
If you think JHs are just "nutty" or "eclectic" than its time for you to either stop talking or do some research.
Hitler was just "eccentric", right?
Not to mention, you just stereotyped an entire religion from meeting one person.
Thats pretty evil, too.
Where the hell is there hate other than you? What is evil? The only one preaching evil here is you somewhereelse. Someone sat next to one JW on a plane and liked that person and you consider that evil? EVIL? Actual EVIL because of a nice friendly discussion on an airplane?
And you keep comparing to murderers? You say you aren't comparing and then you go do it again. WTF is your problem?
