Should landlords be doing multi year leases?

Seems that if renting is a better idea except the uncertainties to the tenants, that landlord should be promoting multi year leases to get people in the door instead of buying. At least rent stabilized leases guarantee a renewal.

Rent stabilized leases essentially have a renter's OPTION, so its not a good comparison. And, of course, under market rents.

Many landlords offer 1 or 2 year leases. Its just that folks don't really want more than that. Even if they do, most landlords in bad markets think things will improve, so why lock in the lower rate?
