Discussion about
I own a 1200 sq ft apt in a full service bldg. With such a large supply of rentals in FIDI, do I have a better chance of renting it myself or should I use a realtor? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

When renting my first stop has always been the By Owner section of Craigslist. It used to be great, though now seems like a lot of crap that floods the listings. Renters hate broker fees, so if you're willing to put in the time and deal with lots of e-mails and showings on your own, that's definitely an option.

However, so long as you're willing to pay the broker fee, no question that you'll get more exposure through brokers and it will make your life much easier.

Outside of neighborhoods like the West Village where broker fees are practically the only way to get in to certain apartments, you're going to have a lot more trouble finding someone willing to pay the fee.

Just my own experience...

The decision comes down to effort and available time. You have to expect toshow your apartment at least 15-20 times before getting someone interested. Price will factor in to you call volume as well. A Broker will most definately get you more clients.
