Discussion about
I am starting the process of a total renovation for a 3bed apartment. So far I've interviewed two designer/architect teams and just got back the first proposal. As I await the second, I was curious if anyone can give me approximate prices they were quoted for architects and designers so I have a litle more comparison. Also, If anyone can recommend anyone (I am looking for people whom normally work together as hopefully the process will go faster/cleaner). Thanks

I'm doing a total gut reno of a place I just bought with an architect I've been in discussions with for about three/four months after having spent a few months prior to that interviewing others and doing research.

As for recs, the issue is that it's a matter of taste. An architect/designer has to either have a general aesthetic that is congruent with yours, or has to be willing and able to simply give you what you want (or better yet, what you think you want but can't completely articulate).

Giving recs on architect/designers is not helpful unless we know a bit more about the project, and more importantly, your taste/style.

I would also like to add that the process will be much better/smoother if you can find one person who is both architect and designer - they tend to think in a much more unified way (spatially speaking) than working with an interior designer who brings in their own architect, or vice versa.

After meeting with several people, I chose Stamberg Aferiat. I realized that design is actually not the most important part, its the architecture and construction management process. These guys far and above impressed me more than anyone else we met. There were designers whom we met that were more our style, but for me, getting the architecture and the build out done properly were more important. We just started a few weeks ago and so far, evey appointment has been met and been on time. Very early in my process though.
