I think I visited an artist's studio in the building a number of years ago (but if so, the atrium was indeed hidden from view).

I looked at a place in the Potter building across the street a few years ago and it looked into the "Palace". I was told at the time it was in conversion to apartments but I guess it fell through. Hard to believe that any stones in manhattan went unturned during the boom, let alone this one.

This place is great but I suspect it is not a good condo conversion because there is too much open space. I love the way the stairs and skylight but you can't sell it as square footage. Well you can try include such common space in the condo but people will notice.
