Discussion about
Astronomer Neil deGrasse Tyson* calls the phenomenon where the sunset lines up with the Manhattan street grid "Manhattanhenge." It's tonight! More here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manhattanhenge ali r. *No, I've never forgiven him for demoting Pluto from planetary status either.

cool. my husband and i randomly caught this exiting central park a year or two (or maybe 3) ago. didn't know it had a name! we were looking west. i'll have to make sure we're farther west so we can look east next time. very cool.

note to single guys: this would make a great proposal backdrop. coming out of the park. you, of course, notice it first and get her to look west and admire the sun. she turns around to share the moment with you and you're on one knee. kind of romantic. could be very cute.

you don't have to give me credit.

Cut to fifty years later, when you help each other deal with the severe macular degeneration that results from staring directly at the Manhattan-aligned western sun.

[Yes, I'm a *hopeless* romantic.]
