Discussion about
My condo's management company just sent out a letter to owners demanding proof of homeowner's insurance with $500k liability and $2mm umbrella. Is this reasonable/normal/acceptable? I've never heard of a management company or board demanding it before.

Common practice and very reasonable. Why would you not want your home insured for damages?

It is, but a $2mm umbrella policy is very expensive. I've never heard of a building requiring that before.

The Umbrella policies is on top of the home owner policy and are inexpensive to purchase. Without knowing the facts the coverage required seems on the high side

Just remember an umbrella policy covers not just your home but provides liability coverage for other things that you can be sued for. If you have any substantial assets, you'd want to protect them. I have an umbrella that covers two homes, additional auto liability, etc. It's well worth the money
