Any one has an update on the air rights? Do you know why it was bought by the school authority?
Air rights can no longer be sold from the building they are attached to. This ruling was laid down in the East Village 197A rezoning. You HAVE to use air rights on the property they are assigned to. You cannot sell or transfer air rights to another property
Can we rephrase the question? Has anybody seen plans for the Chelsea Middle School, which will be built on this property? The only mention I've seen is the CB5 resolution (which passed May 2010), which reads:
"WHEREAS, The School Construction Authority has not finalized any of the design elements but is currently proposing to raze the existing building and construct an 8 story structure..."
The plans are not released yet, but the SCA has stated in a recent public forum held by the Union Square Partnership that they would like to build a structure that runs lot to lot and reaches approximately the height of the 2 buildings to the East and West.
The plan is for a high school and middle school holding 880 students.
