Discussion about
Hi there everyone, I was lucky enough to find these boards while looking for a new apt in nyc, and now that I've found one -- a great 1br on 72nd near columbus -- I'd LOVE to hear your advice about the neighborhood. What are your favorite places to eat, go out, shop, etc? What are the best local establishments, and things that you like the most about living on the Upper West Side. I'm excited to start exploring the area :-D

For groceries, go to Fairway on 74th/Broadway. Make sure to look at the upstairs area where they have the "whole foods"-type groceries and organic. Lots of gelato bars around 72 & Columbus, like Screme on 69/Broadway and others. Lincoln Center is a great place to walk around at night and just admire.

Welcome to the area. You are so centrally located and have so much to do within a few blocks radius. Hit loehmann's on Broadway betweeen 73rd and 74th and Barneys one block up for designer duds. I agree with ephraim2 about Fairway, but be warned, that place can be a nut house! Go during off-hours if you can. Sugar Bar on the south side of 72nd between Broadway and West End is a fun spot for happy hour or live music, and you've got both parks equidistant - Riverside Park and Central Park. Enjoy your new neighborhood!
