closet floors

I am in the middle of fixing some things in an apartment I just bought. One thing that I really want to update is the closet floors, the prior owner had put in some really ugly tiles that are stained and dirty. I would like to replace these would some new wood panels. My question is: do I need to pull up the old tiles or can I just lay new wood flooring on top of the tiles? Thanks!

If you dont have to I wouldnt , the glue will stick better to the subfloor.
