This is a ridiculous question. It depends on what you are looking for? Are you looking for a residence or an investment? What size aprt are you looking for (I assume a studio based on your price), but does it need to be an alcove studio? Do you care whether it is a 5th floor walkup or if there is a doorman? Do you care what part of the UWS? Do you care the condition of the apartment?

Without any specifics NO ONE can give you a credible opinion and you are just wasting your time asking people on this board.

sorry...a residence. it has to be on the UWS. And it can be a studio or an alcove studio. No it cannot be a walkup and preferable in decent condition. Hopes that this is more defined

For $400k I would wager that you are only looking at co-ops and condops. Otherwise you may be looking at a 280-300sqft studio condo.

Most square footage is probably in the 60s West, but that feels like no-man's-land to me. I like West End up in the 90s.
