Discussion about
We are considering buying a pre war that is on a low floor and where nearly all the windows face dark courtyards. How much should we budget for a lighting designer to come up with a plan that would compensate for the lack of natural light? How about installation costs. It is a 2 BR with 6 windows. Thanks in advance!
Will you be using a separate lighting designer apart from a contractor and/or interior designer and/or architect?
Lighting is an interesting issue to me since everyone has his/her own opinion on how well lit a room should be.
I would suggest going to one of the stores on the Bowery or elsewhere in the city and speak to someone about various lighting options to get a sense of pricing. Are you interested in recessed lighting or lighting from multiple sources in the rooms (overhead lighting, lamps, etc.)?
The apartment does not need much additional work, so we were thinking of going with a lighting specialist. The ceilings have beam, so I am not sure that recessed lighting would work well there... We would definitely need someone to come up with a combo of multiple sources. Thanks for suggesting the Bowery, I will look into this.
bowery is low end...go iald certified

Thank you for the suggestion, I will definitely look into this as well. Do you have any idea of resources I could use for personal inspiration? Magazines? Books? Anything I can use to educate myself on pre war architecture and elegant lighting solutions would be useful!
Mom2twins, sorry to piggyback onto your discussion.
Can anyone recommend a good lighting designer?
Are any of you looking for an Interior Designer? I can design your space to your taste for a very reasonable price, perhaps less than any other Interior Designer but to the same quality.
I just started my own business and I am looking for new projects to show the quality of work i can provide!
Dont miss this opportunity!!
