These 74 people made as much as the 19 million lowest-paid people in America, who constitute one in every eight workers.

Ill translate: Our 72 biggest earners made as much money last year as the bottom 12.5% of all earner in our country

the highest income tax bracket in our country is 250k and up---guy who makes 100mm pays the same rate as the guy who makes 250k

and the guy who makes 100mm pays an army of lawyers and accountants to chees his rate to far less than joe 250k

Enough with the charity bullshit.

There are tens of millions of people unemployed. These greedy bastards are essentially hoarding what SHOULD be the salaries of many of these unemployed workers.

Ok Matt...no need to "class" bait...as long as these "tens of millions of people unemployed" have food and shelter, they are living better than more than half the people on the planet. And isn't it nice to know that any one of these millions of unemployed people could one day become a "greedy bastard"? Not very likely in any other country.

Where is it written that having some meaningless job as a corporate slave or government do-nothing is a god-given right? And, tell me how filling the coffers of our federal government with more taxpayer $$ will help anyone except the friends and families of our politicians. Try thinking with your brain, not your heart...

Do you really think overtaxing the upper percentile will hurt the upper rich? or help the poor?? It will hurt entrepreneurship.
Don't you guys watch Mad Men? In that era they were being taxed 70%. 70%!!! How were the poor doing then?
See what so many don't understand is when the uberrich bleeding hearts like George Soros support what seems like something so contrary to his lifestyle, it's because it secretly protects his lifestyle. It destroys and ruins all hopes of competition.
It doesn't unlevel the playing field, it removes it.

It's not class baiting, it's called economic justice! Last time we witnessed the same thing happening in France, the king was beheaded!

And here is the problem with blognews, sources are suspect.....
"These figures were revealed by the Social Security Administration on October 15th"
.....can someone show where this is exactly....from Social Security Admin, and not from you cousin's, brother's, neighbor's, sister in law sewing class teacher.

it's obscene the redistribution of wealth that has been effected via the bush tax cuts and various other trickle-up policies--ans for all you data folks, it should be clear as a bell--our middle clas is getting poor--double incomes and all--where people aren't unemployed

and most of the right drones on with the propaganda, led top their own demise by the koch boys

brilliant

Sorry but the only thing this country is sorely lacking is white collar law enforcement.
See the big crooks have too much on the politicians, so nobody(less than 2%) go to jail.
Have to clean house with both parties, incumbents on both sides.

It takes 2 years for a new politician to learn how and get comfortable with stealing.
We have too many veterans.

Another fine example why this bush tax cut on the rich is not helping the economy:

Aboutready wants special tax breaks and damages from her landlord just for her. She doesn't even care if the money doesn't go into the joint account.

sledge: what does the tax rate on personal income (bust tax cuts) have to do with revenue of "U.S." companies?? I use quotes because the so-called "U.S." companies pay little to no U.S.corporate tax.

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-10-21/google-2-4-rate-shows-how-60-billion-u-s-revenue-lost-to-tax-loopholes.html

BTW, those evil rich guys don't give a rats ass about what the income tax is....sure they get a W2 for their bottle-service $$, but their real wealth is all capital gains and dividends...taxed at a totally different rate. Just the working class (upper and lower) gets to bicker about cutting or raising taxes, while the evil rich are enjoying a fine steak dinner...

Oops..guess they aren't as rich as you thought they were:

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-11-02/-invalid-multiple-tax-forms-by-supposed-billionaires-skew-wage-figures.html

Sledgehammer...where ya at, lemme guess, the rich still make too much money. Rage against people who succeed. Gotta love how our SSA releases these reports based on false information. Lets see...raise taxes so we can hire more government workers at the SSA, or just pay them more, and that will prevent mistakes like this from happening again.

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-11-02/-invalid-multiple-tax-forms-by-supposed-billionaires-skew-wage-figures.html
"The combined total earned by the top Americans fell to $6 billion last year from $11.9 billion in 2008, the agency said in the corrected report."

Whoops, the entire premise of this story was based on an error!
It's bad enough when so called news reports quote things without a link to actual reports.
And this was even worse, the report was wrong.

"It's really about time to cut the bullshit and abolish that bush tax cut!!! This is ridiculous! This country needs a revolution!"

It's really about time to cut the bullshit and abolish blogger style news!! This is ridiculous! This industry needs resolution!

wbottom, how about you fixate on the vast armpit of corruption/waste/patronage/sewage/toxic pablam that emenates from the great halls of albany, then lets talk about raising tax rates yet again. mindless. and your redistribution of wealth analysis is reverse osmosis at its finest. you better ask finaneguy to assist in sprucing up your dogma even though its as transparent as lady gagas panties.

elsewhere: they havent bought shlt that they wouldn't have bought anyway had bush not cut their taxes--so it's been allll trickle up

and ranger: apparently albany causes you a bit of upset--a bit of a non-sequiter given the thread tho--we have been speaking about incomes and taxes

that 250K and up is our highest tax bracket is idiocy--that these 74 pay the same rate as a double-income ny household making 250k is so perfect--that's why employment is sooo strong!!! yay

wbottom, if you think that comment is a non-sequitur given the thread then ur hopeless. btw, what is your number 60%?70%? eff it, how about total confiscation - no doubt those carpetbaggers looted the innocents - only justification would be to take it all back and throw them in jail. Wait, think thats putin's game. now thats aspirational.
