Google plans to buy Chelsea building for $2B ... too lazy to google and post link
They are buying infrastructure and network access. I don't follow Google but it seems to point to a dramatic shift towards that of a service provider, as well as content provider. Don't hold your breath for a free love Google R&D campus in Chelsea though.

The building is loaded with network infrastructure and fiber optic points of presence that is worth far more than the real estate alone.
Now, what will they do with it?
Coops?
Solar panels.
World's largest capsule hotel
whatever happened to the Apple tower they were building in NYC.. believe started building 08..
You guys are redonk. DoubleClick and Google were both already in that building years before they merged. There a few othe Internet companies there. GOOG is just buying the building it's already in.
considering Google purchased its Mountain View CA for $319MM, it's $2B purchase in NY shows a long term commitment.. im thinking the geeks in San Jo are looking for a better restaurant scene.
