I can remember when I used to jump back and forth between SE and NYT. Now, why bother? I do however get a kick out of seeing a "new listing" in the Times that had been pulled after 300 days on the market and then trotted out as something new and exciting! Ha! Gotta love it!

But, don't the ads in NYT cost over $200 per ad? I always figured that the cover charge would keep out the majority of the craigslist hucksters.

The limitation of streeteasy on the rental side is their limiting listings to exclusives. Some really great properties never will make it onto se. Hence the need for a good agent.

I have started working with a broker. Guess what they do. Send me copies of open listings that I have seen languishing on SE for months. Or, of course, the same listings from the James Tower (or 323 w. 96th, or... etc.).

And this isn't one of the CH jokers but a long time agency that specializes in the UWS. (I used them 20 years ago and again 10 years ago, though the 2nd time I found a place on my own and not through them).

So much for all that super-secret, relationship-oriented, broker only assistance that they claim is worth a month of my salary.

You're obviously not using the right broker. And if our fee equals a month's salary for you, then you've got worse problems than finding a good place to live.
