Discussion about
http://www.ny1.com/content/top_stories/128403/cab-owners-ask-for-large-fare-increase Yellow cab fleet owners are looking for whopping fare increases. The city’s biggest group of taxi-medallion and garage owners is petitioning the Taxi and Limousine Commission to boost the price of a cab ride by 19 percent. They also want to increase the base fare from $2.50 to $3.00, which would not include a 50-cent surcharge that goes directly to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

LOLOL! In a depression like this, good luck.

There are already plenty of people out there who have sworn off cabs altogether and are taking the subway exclusively, no matter how late the hour. And the cabbies (at least the ones I talk to) are feeling it.

I remember not too long ago it was impossible to get a cab on a weekend night in the Village. Now I see them cruising around with their lights on -- and no takers
