Discussion about
My wife and I are considering buying a larger apartment in our Sutton Place coop. We have been told that we will need to get board approval for the purchase. Is this common? We had expected that we would not need board approval to buy an apartment in our current coop, as we are current shareholders.

I guess this will be one way to find out what the neighbors really think about you, huh?

This is not unusual - The board wants to see that your current financial status allows you to purchase the new (larger, more expensive apt). However, as board members are only human, they probably wouldn't want to run into you in the elevator if they turn you down, either.
