Renter Beware. This building receives J-51 tax benefits which means that ALL apartments in the building are subject to rent stablization laws. Don't even think about paying $4,000 for this apartment. And be sure to read your lease because they will try to screw you on this point. You should also know that the hallways are always dirty and smell weird. There are no windows in the living room so it's always dark. There is no AC and no wind flow into the apartment so you'll be really hot in the summer. The heeating is terrible so you'll freeze in the winter. The oven only works about 20% of the time and all the appliances are tiny and cheaply made. The garden downstairs is always full of rats so you can't use it. Sometimes the sink water in the bathrooms comes out brown for no reason at all. And finally, the management company is terrible. They lie to you, they're rude to you and have no qualms about overcharging you for anything and everything. You should especially beware of the receptionist at the management company. She's completely dumb and horribly mean for no reason. But I guess if I worked for scumbags like 518 East 13th St Owner LLC, I'd be pretty pissed off too.
