I just sold a unit at 430 East 56th for a seller who grew up there (subsequently moved out of state) and he said it was a great place to grow up.

btw, since i expressed my discomfort with the school situation, progress has been made on the east 57th school location, and the city has purchased half of the solow lot at 35th and 1st to build another elementary school. their stated goal is to have that operational by 2012, but as they have but an empty lot i doubt that will occur. still, if it does go forward, this area (with 116 nearby and 40 further south) will be very well served by public schools.
