Maybe the building incorporates cobblestones ("steps") that were stolen from two different parks. That was a common occurrence in the 1970s, except most of the cobblestones wound up in suburban backyards.

It was from One Carnegie Hill (215 E 96th Street), and it came via the Streeteasy Daily "New Sales Hotsheet"
