safety wise, i find it pretty safe, stuff is open till pretty late/24hours and there are always tourists walking around and so there are always cops walking around too as a result.

the downside is well lots of tourists and if you are into the 'neighborhood' feel, its a pretty corporate neighborhood. Personally for me i'm rather anti-social so i like the non-neighborly i don't want to know your kids name feel.

I've lived in the neighborhood for years. So have a few of my friends. We have never felt unsafe, even walking home in the early morning hours from working late. There is a police station on 54th and 8th Ave. I live over on 9th, which I think has a more neigborhood feel because of the restaurants and bars. Over by Broadway, there are a a lot more office buildings. Also, more tourists. Easy access to everything -even the east side via N, R or E. Area obviously is not as trendy as other areas in of the city, but rents are cheaper and if you work in mid-town west, it is nice to be able to walk to work.

i live on 54th and 8th (Marc NY - 260 w 54th). Looking to move out mainly because the neighborhood is not my type. I like the buzz / vibrancy of village etc. more and find myself going there a lot anyway. There are lots of restaurants on 9th avenue though (nothing outstanding, but good number of them). also the park is not far, which is nice. The building itself is nice, but very restrictive when it comes to common area usage policies etc. - anal management.

Well, the area between 7th & Broadway is about 6 inches at 54th Street. I live at 52nd & 8th (Ellington) & LOVE IT. My sister-in-law's best friend also lives in the building & LOVES IT.

True, there are tourists. True, some sirens. But also true, it's NY, which is why people move here.

Subway is great: C, E, 1, Q, N, R, F, B, D all within walking distance. And even more at 42nd Street.
