Discussion about
Streeteasy, I hope you guys can see the problem: the same unfortunate characters highjacking YOUR thread, being rude, offensive and generally ruining our business model. I personally believe that it's better for some threads to be (passionately) off topic than just having some juvenile crap being spewed by the same cartoonish baddies 24/7. Half of the participants just have to be "ignored" all the time. No information=no fun. Sorry, just my 2 rusty cents.

Commoner - Given that just 3% of SE traffic hits these threads, I think it's safe to say the entire forum is already on ignore.

Wait a second. Commoner says that certain posters are ruining "our" business model. Is that a typo or is Commoner a SE alter ego? Or maybe Commoner sees the board as his/her/its business model? Just wonderin'.

ph41 I think you really need therapy. Why don't you stop already. Go help yourself instead of attacking others. This is not the purpose of this board. Personal attacks are restricted. You should be banned. Talk about RE please. That is if you have anything to say. I would happily read your opinions on apartments and neighborhoods.

aboutready, please stop stalking and bullying me. This is the last time I'm asking you. You are, from what I know, a middle-aged housewife who, for some reason, feels compelled to attack strangers on an anonymous real estate board.
I ask you to stop stalking me.

Stop it. Can't you guys just stop it? You're all like gerbils. It isn't funny. It isn't witty. And you, yes you, are all ruining this for everyone. If you have something meaningful to say about RE, fine. But no one gives a damn about what ph41 thinks of aboutready or vise verse. Why you all feel this compulsion to post these stupid things and seem bereft of any impulse control is a mystery. But seriously. Just stop it.

I generally agree with kylewest, but I don't think you can lump all posters together. AboutReady simply says "stay classy" in response to ph41's attack on someone else, then commoner goes into a ridiculous rant about "stalking and bullying." How is that comment either? Commoner and others are simply trying to get SE's attention, like some stupid tattletale in second grade, hoping that SE will (wrongly) think there is bullying going on. If you say something, you should defend it rather than hiding behind mommy SE's skirts. And, when someone accuses another poster of wrongdoing without any basis whatsoever, they have a right to point that out.

I agree with kw generally. The problem on here, much more than the troll, is the numerous personal disputes, which are just tedious and erupt in just about every thread, and which mean nothing to anyone with a grain of sense. People can just ignore those they don't like WITHOUT CONSTANTLY ENGAGING THEM.

Midtowner East: Disagree. You can lump all posters together on this issue.

If you make *any* comment at all about the troll, or troll identy theories, or appeals to Streeteasy, or blaming Streeteasy, or worst of all if you respond to the troll, then you are part of the problem.

If you ignore all this nonsense and instead post about Real Estate, then you are part of the solution. If people would just shut up about all the Troll-stuff, it would be amazing how quickly the problem would go away -- not overnight, but gradually and steadily.

seg, I hesitate to continue these conversations any longer, but your comment gets a thumbs up from me. Ignoring can be hard to it at first, but it becomes an easy habit to maintain after awhile. And there is one poster who's already been greyed out for a while who ONLY comments/complains about the troll. And yet some insist that he's "different." Let's move on sooner rather than later please.

but, you couldn't help yourself. that's the insidious problem created by the troll. how can your comment be OK yet others aren't? if you believe that silence is the answer, you should consider that in good faith it is not appropriate to preach silence.

ColumbiaCounty has nailed it. By lecturing people who are simply defending themselves, you too are commenting are on the issue and, by defintion, violating your own "rule"! Plus, as I said elsewhere, you guys are way overboard with the "keep the board pristine" crap. Take a look at the majority of the threads; they are, in fact, about RE (with the exception of ridiculous political rantings by one poster). Why don't you just ignore what you don't like by sticking to those RE-only threads and mind your own business? I am not going to have someone accuse me of bullying them when I am simply standing up for myself. Plus, this thread is not clearly not about RE; it is about what SE should be doing, so your comments about sticking to RE issues are offbase.

In a spirit of reconciliation, and out of respect for the clinical condition of one poster in particular, may we suggest that all posters henceforth post using the first person plural (especially Riversider).

At some point if grandpa thinks every bird or plane going over is a UFO, it is better to nod in agreement and say, "look, grandpa, there goes another one."

We hope this is appreciated.

bjw, people have been posting on here for years. you put a bunch of bulls and bears on a board and ask them for their opinions and personalities will show (as you well know). yes, it can be tiresome, but it's not hard to ignore someone who posts regularly under a given name (or even 5 or 6 names once you figure it out). a troll that recreates itself daily is another matter.

cc, my comment is not "ok." I would rather not have posted it, but felt seg and kw's sentiment needed a little backing on a board that seems intent on continuing the status quo. You seem to point the finger entirely at the troll. Given what's happened, that seems overwhelmingly short-sighted.

does that logic work for anyone other than you? the "I would rather have not posted but..."

I certainly would rather that the troll didn't make up endless names based on mine. I certainly would rather that the troll didn't endlessly follow me around and post the same thing over and over and over again.

i think there is a lot of disagreement and people who find each other disagreeable here but that's par for the course. comparing the troll's behavior to that makes no sense, at least to me.

We think bjw's comment was reasonable. The hard line that in this specific thread such a comment cannot be made is sophistry, respectfully.

Meast == we are using first person plural as a gesture of respect for the mental condition of a certain poster. It wasn't meant in the royal sense.

Adults fight. Have you ever served on a coop? How about rented from a landlord you didn't like? What about if your kids aren't receiving the right attention? Fight. Kids do it but so do adults.

Fight is about SOMETHING if it's a fight. Attacking total strangers and their families is being a psycho, not fighting.
