I lived in rivedale for 20 years. I would suggest you look in the riverdale press for fbo listings. If you can up your budget to 350 my friend is selling her 3b/2b eat in kitchen, terrace, parking spot, storage unit. She does not have it listed with brokers yet. It is in immaculate condition and the sale is due to divorce. Please let me know if you want her email.

Are you looking for any particular amenities? Bldgs with doormen/pools/gym maybe higher than $300K. I looked at over 50 apartments myself and finally settled on the Edmond Lee (3135 Johnson)and I realy like the bldg. No complaints (so far). I can tell you one bldg in particular that I had a really bad exeperience with was the Whitehall. Other than that, I dont htink you can really go wrong in the area. Bldgs, located on palisade avenue have spectacular views of the hudson but are more expensive. If you want to be centrally located to shopping/ restaurants/transportation, I would advise looking for places in the area's of Johnson Avenue and HH Pkwy (not to far up).

Looking Glass -I just saw this post, perhaps you found something already but just in case I live in Spuyten Duyvil and am about to list my two bedroom apartment for sale on Palisade Avenue. It is a spacious two bedroom with a renovated eat in kitchen, renovated bathroom, refinished hardwood floors and crown moldings througout the entire apartment.
It is literally just steps from the Metro North and a short walk to shopping on Kappock St and is within your price range. Please let me know if you would like my email. Thank you.

Bela and Kathy - I appreciate the information, but given the dearth of options (2BR convertible 3) in our price range when we were looking 5-6 months ago, we opted instead to buy a house in Danbury, CT (against some of the advice on SE). The commute will be a bit of a pain (though it won't be daily or year-round). However, we're looking forward to the additional space.

Welcome to Danbury! Have been living in nearby Newtown for the past 25 years. Danbury to Riverdale is
1 hr without traffic. Danbury to Metro North Southeast is 15 minutes tops and then 80 minutes to GC.

I too am curious about the bad experience with the Whitehall. By reputation it is supposed to be one of the premier condos in Riverdale. All the amenities, celebrities among the current and former tenants, etc.

1.5 + hours to commute each way? Ouchy.

Riverdale to my current job in Harlem is 40 minutes (walking and 1 train). Danbury to Harlem is an hour by car (with no unreasonable traffic). About 12 minutes to Brewster and an hour on Metro North by train. Not great, but not egregious, especially since there are plenty of people who live in NYC who commute 1-1.5 hours each way to work within the city.

Re: the WhiteHall. I should clarify that the bad experience really centered with the management company. They were extremely unresponsive to both myself and the seller. Also at the time of my purchase, the building was still under the 51% owners to renters ratio and getting mortgage approval for the bldg was a huge hassle. After a roughly 6 month wait from application submission, I received a call declining my application-no bd meeting (financials were great, ample liquidity, and job stability). It was just wierd, frustrating and disheartening. I understand the discretion granted to co-ops however at the Edmond Lee the process took just one month, and I was approved the day after my board meeting. I later meet a young couple who currently rent in the Whitehall and their number one complaint wass that the building had a lot of older shareholders/tenants and they didn't feel completely comfortable as a young couple. IT all worked out in the end, as I am very happy with my new place, my building, and neighborhood.

Also @AvUWS you are right the Whitehall has the BEST amenities of all the bldg's I visited (on site dry cleaners!!). But I found that most other bldgs, including the bldg that I ultimately settled on, have the same core amenties - 24hr doorman/pool/work-out room/storage/parking. And if I need my clothes dry cleaned, there is a delivery service.

AvUWS and bronxstar: There are just a few condo buildings in Riverdale.

What's your info on the best/best deals? Thanks.

One bedroom. My Italian friend loves Riverdale, and she will be the one living in the apartment.

I am looking for a 2/bedroom at least 1.5 bath in south or central Riverdale and several people on this thread have mentioned apartments not yet listed. If you know of something, please call me at 917-270-0274. Thanks. Someone mentioned the Edmond Lee--I'd love to find out if there are any 2/bed/2baths coming on the market there. There are none on the market right now. Thanks.
